My name’s David Ho, I’m 38 and I’m a professional wedding & portrait photographer living in Edinburgh. I’ve been photographing weddings & portraits all over Scotland & the UK for over 13 years now. I’m good at what I do and I love what I do! To be invited to document the happiest day in someone’s life is a real privilege and an absolute joy. Alongside that comes a responsibility which I never take lightly. At any wedding, my main objective is to provide the bride & groom with the most breathtaking pictures possible, each one reflecting the people, the venue, the details, the atmosphere and emotions of the entire day - the whole story. Aside from the photography, it is important to me that I contribute positively to the overall enjoyment of the wedding itself. I work quickly and everything I do is professional yet informal to encourage an atmosphere of fun, laughter and good humour.

How do I photograph weddings? This is a hard one to pin down because I’ve grown so much as a photographer in the last 13 years. I guess, in the main, my wedding photography style is quiet, candid & observational. I like to float discreetly from one situation to another, clicking away unobtrusively, photographing your wedding day with the maximum creativity and the minimum of fuss. I love to take pictures that are natural, spontaneous and full of life - ’real’ pictures which will make you smile and send a shiver down your spine every time you look at them. Please flick through some of my storybook designs (click the button on the top menu bar) to see how natural and photojournalistic the majority of my photography actually is. It will also let you see how I photograph a full day’s wedding from start to finish.

But in addition to all the natural, candid shots, I also like to purposefully create beautiful pictures, not just wait for them to happen. And to do this I’ll step forward sometimes to quickly and expertly direct whoever I’m photographing – maybe suggest a location, where to be, how to stand. Everything is done quickly and lightheartedly. For example, when photographing glamourous portraits of the bride & groom (individually or together), when photographing the wedding party and the ‘must have’ family groupshots. These are the kind of important shots which would benefit from some professional direction and positioning so that everyone is looking their best. I’ll be aware of this throughout the day and will step forward when required.
