Love my black & whites! If there’s anything more striking than a beautifully crafted silhouetted black & white image, I’ve yet to see it. Damn hard to nail it, mind you! Your biggest hurdle to overcome is flare, what with shooting into the light. But if you crack that particular nut and get the exposure ripe for a black & white conversion, you’re almost home and dry. Alongside those technical considerations of lighting, the artistic aspect of your image needs careful thought too (obviously). I personally find that b/w silhouettes done properly are quiet, still, powerful and emotive, where what’s being conveyed is in a sense ‘bigger’ than what’s contained in the composition.
